Contact Us
1. Free 10 Minute Consult Call

A brief call that gives us a chance to understand what you’re looking for and answer any questions you may have. We will talk about your goals, your concerns, and whether our practice is the right fit for your needs.

Please review our patient policies and guidelines prior to the call. If not already provided, a copy is available upon request.

2. Initial Intake Appointment (60 minutes)

Your first full visit focuses on understanding your history, symptoms, and goals so we can create a personalized treatment plan. Medications are not prescribed during the intake. If appropriate, medication may be started at your first follow-up visit.

Before your intake, you will receive an email from Headway to create your account and complete all required forms, consents, and insurance verification. These forms must be completed before your appointment or the visit may need to be rescheduled.

3. Follow-Up Visits (30 minutes)

Follow-up appointments review progress, make medication adjustments, and support your ongoing well-being.

If medication is started:

  • Your first follow-up must be within one week
  • Weekly visits are required until your dose is stable
  • Once stable, follow-ups are spaced out based on your needs
4. Telehealth Platform

All sessions take place virtually through a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform. Your appointment link will be sent by email and text.

We are licensed in New York and can only treat patients who are physically in New York State at the time of their session.

5. Insurance & Rates

We are in-network with:

Aetna
Blue Cross Blue Shield (Including Anthem, Empire, and other affiliates)

We do not accept any commercial plans linked to Medicare or Medicaid.

Private Pay Rate: $250 per session

7. Attendance Policy

Please join your appointment on time. We offer a 15-minute grace period. Appointments canceled with less than 24 hours’ notice, or missed entirely, incur a $200 no-show fee.

8. Communication Guidelines

We offer several ways to contact us. Please use each method with the following privacy considerations in mind:

1. Standard Text Messaging (SMS)

You may text us at (516) 200-1835 for convenience. We understand texting is often the easiest way to reach us.

However, SMS is not encrypted, and messages could be intercepted. We offer secure alternatives (Spruce and Headway) that better protect your information. By choosing to text, you acknowledge these risks and confirm SMS as your preferred method.

2. Spruce Secure Messaging

For secure, HIPAA-compliant communication, please use Spruce, our encrypted messaging platform. You can message us through the Spruce app or in your browser: spruce.care/josephpsych

You may also text us and request a direct link for Spruce.

3. Headway Patient Portal

You may also send secure HIPAA-compliant messages through your Headway portal.

4. Phone Calls

You may call our office at (516) 200-1835. All voicemails are stored securely within our HIPAA-compliant system.

Communication expectations:

  • Standard SMS is available, but not encrypted; texting implies acknowledgment of this risk
  • Medication changes, new symptoms, or treatment concerns require a scheduled visit
  • Weekend messages (Fri–Sun) are answered the next business day
  • We cannot provide crisis support via phone or messaging

If you are in crisis, please call 911 or go to the nearest Emergency Room.

9. Headway Account Setup & Required Forms

You must:

  • Create your Headway account
  • Complete all intake forms
  • Submit insurance information
  • Add a valid payment method on file

Headway will complete your insurance verification. If forms are incomplete or unverified, your appointment may be rescheduled. You may also receive digital assessments before appointments when clinically appropriate.
